Lee and Pedro bring inspiration

I’m back. Part of the reason that I haven’t posted in over a month is that I’ve found it difficult to get inspired.

Cynamon/Sokolowski and Coyotes?

Back in the summer the NHL presented the names of Toronto Argonaut co-owners Howard Sokolowski and David Cynamon as an interested group in purchasing the Phoenix Coyotes. Later it was rumoured that these two potentially joined up with the Ice Edge Holdings Inc. group which would purchase the Coyotes.

NHL Attendance Down

The NHL has never backed away from talking itself up and it recently issued a press release that did just that. Much of the press release highlighted the increase in television ratings and increased traffic to NHL.com but there was some discussion on NHL attendance levels

Status of Coyotes

Yesterday the NHL, Moyes, and the other creditors were in court before bankruptcy judge Redfield T. Baum and they have apparently come to an arrangement that will see the NHL purchase the Coyotes

World Series Preview

With the Yankees taking on the Phillies, we will see a real battle between the Titans in the MLB World Series . The Yankees are a 103 win team that is one of the best in baseball and no stranger to postseason play.

Weeping in Clippers Land

The LA Clippers were looking to make a big run this year. They can still do it, because they have gotten a lot of great new players this year and they will have the kind of talent that could get them much closer. But their newest star, Blake Griffin , has a fracture of the kneecap, a stress fracture.

Luongo and the Canucks

Roberto Luongo got his 48th shutout, a record somewhere, stopping 27 shots against the Oilers last night. Luongo is one of the best goaltenders in the league and he’s doing a great job with it too. We will be interested in seeing what he ends up showing us this year, because last year was a banner year for him.

But make no mistake — it has changed the way a key part of the rule is written, even if an executive seems to be implying otherwise. The Associated Press quotes a league executive refuting the story that the NBA has meaningfully changed its rule about players on the move gathering a dribble or a pass: Stu Jackson, the league’s executive vice president of basketball operations, said recent media reports that the rule had been changed to allow an extra step after the dribble were not true.

Phillies

The Dodgers went back to the West Coast, having lost the last game of the NLCS . We were hoping that the series would get a little more interesting, but they went out with a whimper.

Referees

The main part of the 2009-10 season hasn’t started yet. This was, of course, planned this way and we’re definitely looking forward to it. But one of the things that I’m kind of disappointed about, still, is that we might not get to see our favorite referees on the court when the season opens on Tuesday
